At just around midnight during a heavy snow fall Rochelle Park Fire Dept responded to Ted's Deli, 440 Rochelle Ave for a reported working fire, on arrival heavy fire was found venting from the front windows of a sushi restaurant in the 1 story strip mall @150 X 50 housing 5 businesses and heavy smoke showing from the roof and other stores, the 1st due engine immediately went in service with a 2-1/2" handline and quickly knocked down the heavy fire but flames had already extended into the roof area above the store and broke out into the air, this was also quickly knocked down and with aggresive interior firefighting. The majority of the fire was confined to the store of origin with only slight extension into the deli and a nail salon, however the remainder of the stores suffered from heavy smoke damage. Mutual aid co's from Maywood, Saddle Brook and Paramus assisted and the fire was declared under control in about 90 minutes.
