Carlstadt NJ 3rd Alm, 414 1st St. 07-28-12

At @09:20 on July 28th, 2012, Carlstadt NJ FD received calls for a reported house fire in the 400 block of 1st St, as many area co's were still operating at a fatal truck vs building with fire in Hasbrouck Hts. On arrival of PD a working fire was advised and a large column of smoke was visible to responding units. The correct address was determined to be 414 1st, St. a 2 story frame dwelling with heavy fire on the exterior of the B side of the home extending into the 1st, 2nd floors and into the attic with a live wire down in the driveway. A 2nd alarm was requested quickly followed by a 3rd alarm. The exterior fire was darkened down as handlines were advanced into the home and E. Rutherford T-1 went to the roof to vent. The main body of fire was quickly knocked down, all searches were completed and found to be negative and the fire was declared PWH at the 35 minute mark and the fire placed under control in 60 minutes. The fire appears to have started on the exterior in a large structure on the B side of the home, but that has not been confirmed, no injuries were reported and the occupants were not home at the time of the fire. It has also been learned that the homeowner is a local firefighter.
