Kearny NJ 4th Alm, 187 Brighton Ave, 02-27-12
At around 14:20 Kearny Fire Dept started receiving several calls reporting a house fire, on arrival of Deputy Chief John Harris a 2nd alarm was requested as he observed heavy fire in the rear of the 2-1/2 story frame dwelling on both the 1st and 2nd floors and impinging on the houses on each side. An aggressive interior attack was commenced and mutual aid was requested from Harrison, E. Newark and N. Arlington to the scene as a 3rd alarm transmitted. Members were briefly evacuated due to the conditions, regrouped and then re-entered knocking down the majority of the fire, a 4th alarm was requested for coverage. Multiple hand lines along with Ladder 2's master stream were used to control the fire in a little over 90 minutes with minimum damage to the exposures. Just over an hour into the fire, members were again withdrawn for several minutes as the 2nd floor lit up due to fire in the walls and attic but quickly knocked down by TL-2 and 2 exterior lines. Special thanks to Chief Dyl, Deputy Chief Harris and the members of the Kearny Fire Dept for allowing me unlimited access to the fire ground.
