1. 2012 Fires

Yonkers NY 3rd alm, 32 Lincoln Terr. 01-30-12

At around 14:30 hours Yonkers Fire Dept communications received a phone call reporting a possible outside fire/smoke in the area of Warburton Ave & Glenwood Ave and dispatched a single engine company on an investigation, on arrival E-308 reported a working fire at 32 Lincoln Terr, a large 3 story wood frame OMD with fire showing from the rear. The building built on the side of a steep hill was actually 3 stories on street side and 5 stories (including the basement) in the rear. Within 10 minutes after arrival a 2nd alarm was requested as heavy fire conditions rapidly spreading to the upper floors, firefighters conducted an aggressive interior attack but within 30 minutes into the fire, all members were evacuated, companies prepared for an exterior attack and a 3rd alarm was requested. 1 tower ladder, 1 ladder pipe, 1 stang and several handlines were used for several hours from the exterior to get the fire under control at approximately 8:45pm. The fire building suffered several major collapses but no FF's were injured. In all over 70 FF's fought the fire while mutual aid was requested to cover empty city houses, as this fire was being brought under control, mutual aid co's along with several Yonkers co's fought another all hands fire in a 5 story OMD on Currans Lane. 7 families were left homeless and one occupant suffered non-life threatening injuries. A special thanks to the members of the Yonkers Fire Dept who allowed me access to the fire scene and provided me with information.
