Irvington NJ 4th Alm, 100 Coit St 08-18-13
At just around midnight on August 18th, 2013, Irvington Fire Dept received multiple calls for a building fire on Coit St in the area of #119, Engine 42 upon leaving their quarters 1/2 a block away reported heavy smoke showing and corrected the address to 100 Coit St, heavy fire was observed in the rear of the 1 story commercial building which measured approximately 75' X 200' with a heavy timber truss roof, a 2nd alarm was sounded as companies discovered heavy fire through out the interior of the building followed by a 3rd alarm as fire broke through the roof. Co's set up for a defensive attack and to protect the exposures using 4 ladder pipes, 4 deck guns and multiple ground monitors and hand lines. A 4th alarm was requested for manpower as the fire took over 3 hours to get under control, co's were hampered by a large amount of plastics which were stored in the building. At least 1 FF was injured with non life threatening injuries and co's remained on the scene through the night and through out the following day, the building was a total loss.
