Passaic NJ 4th alm, 77 Lafayette Ave. 05-16-13
At around 7:40 pm, Passaic NJ Fire Dept responded to 77 Lafayette Ave for a reported fire, on arrival co's found a moderate fire condition on the first floor in the rear of the large 3 story frame building occupied as a rooming house and a 2nd alarm was transmitted. With the assigned 1st due engine closed due to manpower, E-1, the 1st in engine on the scene stretched an attack line through the front door to attack the fire. Within @10 minutes heavy fire was found to have extended into the 2nd and 3rd floors and command sounded the evacuation order, all members evacuated the building and went to an exterior attack with 1 ladder pipe, Clifton T-2's tower and multiple exterior handlines. No occupants were injured but 2 firefighters suffered non-life threatening injuries and transported to the hospital with one being held overnight for observation. The fire went to 4 alarms with mutual aid from several surrounding towns and was placed under control at @ 11:15pm with co's remaining on the scene through out the night, the preliminary report is that the fire was electrical in nature.
