Rochelle Pk NJ W/F 17 Oak St, 08-31-13
On the morning on Saturday August 31st, 2013, Rochelle Park FD was dispatched for a reported pole down on Rochelle Ave in the area of the CVS, on arrival it was found that a PSE&G pole in the parking lot of the CVS had snapped at the base and fell into the yard of 17 Oak St, the pole held 3 transformers and carried high voltage power to feed the CVS store, in addition, a second pole also snapped and was leaning on a 2-1/2 story frame mixed occupancy OMD on Rochelle Ave and a thrid pole was leaning severly over the roadway being held in place only by the high voltage wires atop it. As companies arrived the transformers and wires on the original pole were arcing and burning and smoke and fire quickly started showing from the exposed garage at the rear of 17 Oak, unable to attack the fire until the power was cut, companies established water supplies and took up defensive positions, once PSE&G advised that the power was cut, a quick offensive attack quickly had the fire under control but not before the garage was heavily damaged. No other building suffered fire damage and no injuries were reported, mutual aid from Saddle Brook and Maywood assisted at the scene and provided coverage.
