Clifton NJ 5th Alm, 221-223 Dayton Ave. 05-31-14
At @23:45 hours on Saturday May 31st, 2014, Clifton Fire Alarm started receiving multiple calls reporting a fire at 223 Dayton Ave with entrapment, PD units arrived and confirmed a working fire, a 2nd alarm was requested on arrival of the fire dept quickly followed by a 3rd alarm as heavy fire was found on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the 3 story building housing a business on the 1st floor and apartments above, fire was also extending into the B exposure, a 2 story building housing a book store on the 1st floor and apts above. As conditions deteriorated, all members were withdrawn and set up for an exterior attack, the fire eventually spread to the B-1 exposure and the B exposure suffered a major collapse from the roof to the 1st floor. The fire eventually went to 5 alarms with firefighters from Passaic, Bergen and Essex Counties assisting Clifton Fire Dept and it took almost 3 hours get under control, 1 firefighter and 1 occupant suffered none life threatening injuries and both were transported to the hospital, the cause is under investigation.
