Edgewater NJ 2nd Alm, Main St at the Hudson River. 06-24-14
At just before midnight on June 24th, 2014, Edgewater NJ Fire Dept was dispatched for a reported pier fire at the foot of Main St in the Hudson River, on arrival a working fire was reported for heavy fire and smoke showing from the end of the pier and rapidly spreading back towards land. A 2nd alarm was requested as companies established water supplies and started to attack the fire, access was difficult and although several fire boats were initially requested from FDNY, North Hudson and Jersey City, they were returned because of the out going tide and shallow water making it impossible for the boats to operate, numerous handlines as well as 2 elevated streams eventually started getting a handle on the flames although overhaul and final extinguishment would be prolonged due to the creosite soaked would burning and the limited access to the fire. Mutual Aid companies from Cliffside Park, Ridgefield, Ft. Lee, Fairview, Englewood Cliffs and Leonia assisted Edgewater firefighters.
