Lodi NJ, Fatal 2nd Alm, 222 Garibaldi Ave. 02-01-14
At around 18:30 hours on February 1st, 2014, Lodi NJ Fire Dept responded to 222 Garibaldi Ave. for a reported apartment fire, on arrival a working fire was found in a 1st floor apt auto extending to the apt above and reports of people trapped, a re-tone was sent out for the working fire and a 2nd alarm was requested bringing mutual aid co's from Garfield, Wallington, Saddle Brook, and Hackensack as well as additional mutual aid companies for cover. The original fire apt was fully involved with heavy fire venting out the front windows and front door as well as the rear windows, 1 occupant was removed from the 2nd floor apt and transported by EMS to the hospital. Several lines were put into service and the main body of fire was knocked down in approximately 15 minutes in both apts however there was some extension into the attic area but that was quickly extinguished. The elderly female occupant of the fire apt was located deceased after the fire was knocked down, no firefighters were injured and companies remained on the scene for several hours overhauling and for investigative purposes.
