Bergenfield NJ 2nd alarm, 465 S. Washington Ave. 04-03-16

At around 04:15 on April 3rd 2016, Bergenfield NJ Fire Dept. responded to Foster's Stationary at 465 S. Washington Ave. for a fire. On arrival companies found heavy fire blowing out the front of the store which was located in the center of a large strip mall. Chief of Dept Saito requested a 2nd alarm which brought mutual aid from Teaneck, Dumont, New Milford, Tenafly and Ridgefield Park to the scene. As several handlines were put into operation the truck went to the roof for top side ventilation. Despite the heavy fire conditions, the main body of fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes and as companies checked the businesses on each side they were found to only have mostly smoke and water damage. An unseasonable storm with high winds, snow and temperatures in the 20's made operations challenging. 2 firefighters suffered minor injuries and co's remained on the scene for approximately 3 hours, the cause of the fire is under investigation.
