Paterson NJ 3rd alarm, 24 Pearl St. 05-11-16
At just before midnight on May 11th 2016 Paterson NJ tour 1 responded for a possible fire at 24 Pearl St. under the command of Battalion 2, on arrival co's found a large vacant and boarded up 3 story frame building heavily involved, fire appeared to be extending into exposure B, another 3 story frame and the siding of exposure D, a row of attached 2 story frames was melting off. BC-2 immediately requested a 2nd alarm. Companies forced entry into the fire building and stretched lines into the exposure in an attempt to cut off the well advanced fire. Deputy Chief McDermott took command and requested a 3rd alarm and then ordered all members out of the main fire building. With 1 ladder pipe, 1 deck gun and numerous hand lines, the main body of fire was knocked down in about 20 minutes. The fire did extend into the cockloft of the B exposure but firefighters were able to stop it from extending further. An 80 year old female was removed by firefighters from the B exposure and transported to a local hospital with smoke inhalation. Due to a partial collapse in the rear of the main fire building and indications of possible further collapse, no member were permitted to enter the building and it was scheduled for demolition. No firefighters were injured and the fire took 2-1/2 hours to be placed under control.
