Bronx NY 3rd alarm+ box 2152, 261 Walton Ave. 04-09-17
At just around 00:15 hours on April 9th, 2017 box 2152 was transmitted in the Mott Haven section for smoke from a building behind the gas station at E. 138 St & Walton Ave. A 10-75 (working fire) was transmitted by first arriving co's for a fire in a commercial building. At 00:30 the battalion reported all hands going to work followed a few minutes later with the chief of the 6th division transmitting a 2nd alarm. The fire building was a 6 story mill type building housing a self storage business, the fire was located on the 2nd floor with heavy smoke throughout. At 00:45 with heavy fire venting out the bravo side 2nd floor windows Div. 6 transmitted the 3rd alarm and at 01:05 ordered all members out of the building. 2 additional tower ladders were requested as companies set up for an exterior attack, 5 tower ladders were put into operation on 3 sides of the building as the fire extended into the 3rd and 4th floors. At just before 03:00 car !5, Assistant Chief Hodgens reported that the bulk of the fire was knocked down but pockets of fire remained and the fire was still DWH. The fire was kept at a 3rd alarm with units special called in for relief purposes, as the sun rose, heavy smoke continued to emanate from the building and heavy fire broke through the roof of a 2 story addition on the charlie side. Co's remained on the scene throughout the day overhauling and hitting hot spots. Several firefighters were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
