Nutley NJ 2nd alarm, 53 Beech St, 05-18-17

Nutley NJ firefighters had their hands full on May 18th, 2017. At just before 22:00 several calls started coming in for a house fire on Beech St with conflicting numerics, As units arrived heavy fire was showing from windows on the 2nd floor of the 2.5 story frame home and a 2nd alarm was requested. As companies were advancing attack lines towards the seat of the fire, ammo started going off forcing command to evacuate the crews from the home and attempt to knock down the fire from the exterior. As soon as conditions permitted, co's re-entered the home and started overhauling the 2nd floor however the fire had already extended into the attic and heavy smoke was pushing from the roof, co's attempting to advance into the attic reported high heat and requested the roof be vented. After several good pushes into the attic, all visible fire was knocked down with 4 lines stretched and operating. The fire was declared under control just before the 24:00 hour mark, several firefighters suffered from heat exhaustion and were treated by EMS, the fire occured in the middle of an unusual spring heat wave with temperatures in the upper 90's and high humidity for 3 days.
