At just before 11:30 on January 5th 2018, Hackensack Fire Dept 3rd platoon under the command of Deputy Chief Steve Kalman responded for a report of a house fire at 10 Van Wettering Pl. Car 1, Chief of Dept Tom Freeman was in the area and reported a working fire. Co's arrived to find heavy fire on the 1st floor of the 2.5 story frame home extending to the 2nd floor and a second alarm was requested. Lines were quickly stretched into the building as the truck co vented the roof. The main body of fire was knocked down in under 10 minutes and co's started opening up, hitting hot spots and checking for extension but were hampered by a hole burned through the floor on the 2nd floor and the porch roof being unstable. Despite the bitter cold temperatures in the single digits, no injuries were reported and the fire was placed under control in less than 1 hour.
