New Milford NJ 4th alarm, 12 Canterbury Lane, 07-29-18
3 townhouse units were destroyed during a 4 alarm fire in New Milford NJ on July 29th, 2018. At a little before noon the fire department was dispatched for a report of a fire involving an attached deck at 12 Canterbury Lane. While enroute the chief was advised that PD units were on scene and reporting a working fire with possible entrapment, an occupant had ran back into the home as officers arrived but exited moments later suffering non-life threatening burns to her arms. On arrival of the chief he reported heavy fire in the rear of the building and requested a 2nd alarm. Co's stretched a 2-1/2 to the rear and several hand lines through the front doors in an attempt to quickly knock the fire down, however heavy fire had already took hold of the cockloft. As co's attempted to cut off the fire spread conditions continued to deteriorate, heavy fire was burning through the roof and fire started showing out several 2nd floor windows in the front of the building forcing command to evacuate the building. 1 tower ladder and numerous exterior hand lines were put into operation to knock down the heavy fire. A total of 4 alarms were requested bringing numerous mutual aid to the scene and for cover. 1 occupant and 3 firefighters suffered minor injuries and the fire was placed under control a little after 1pm. The cause is under investigation.
