Newark NJ 3rd alarm, Garden St & NJ Railroad Ave. 1-13-18
At just after 10am on January 13th, 2018, Newark NJ Fire Dept responded to Garden St & New Jersey Railroad Ave. for a building fire. On arrival E-14 reported a working fire on the 2nd floor of a large 3 story abandoned warehouse. A 2nd alarm was requested due to heavy fire conditions. On arrival Deputy 1 advised units not to enter the building, defensive operations only. 5 minutes into the job, Deputy 1 reported the 2nd floor fully involved extending into the 3rd floor, also live wires down and setting up a collapse zone. At 10:20 2 additional engines were requested above the 2nd alarm and fire was reported through the roof. Special calls were made for several additional units as 5 ladder pipes, several deck guns, numerous ground monitors and hand lines were put into operation. The main body of fire was knocked down after approximately 2 hours however co's remained on the scene through the evening hitting hot spots one of which flared up the following morning requiring several companies to extinguish. Emergency demolition was requested to take the building down and a suspect was arrested for starting the fire.
