1. 2018 Fires

Saddle Brook NJ 2nd alarm, 532 Saddle River Rd. 08-07-18

In the late evening of August 7th, 2018 following a line of severe thunderstorms that rolled through the area, Saddle Brook NJ Firefighters were dispatched to the area of Saddle River Rd and Birk St for a tree which had fallen taking down electrical wires and a pole with transformers on it. The falling high tension wires draped across Saddle River Rd landing on a pick up truck behind #532 and igniting it. The flames then spread to a detached 1.5 story 2 car garage as firefighters were forced to standby awaiting the power to be shut off as the fire grew and the power lines arced in the street.
Power was finally cut after about 40 minutes and crews immediately started extinguishment with several hand lines. A 2nd alarm was requested which brought several neighboring depts to the scene and for cover. The firefighters were successful in protecting 2 homes which were in close proximity. Both the garage and the pickup were destroyed.
