Maywood NJ working truck fire, Rt.17 S/B, 7-4-19
At just before 23:30 on July 4th 2019, Maywood NJ Fire Dept engines 18 & 19 were dispatched to a reported truck fire on Rt.17 south opposite the Sunoco Station. While enroute co's were advised that patrol reported a well involved car carrier. Rochelle Park Fire Dept was also dispatched to a report of a fire on the dead end of Madison which turned out to be the same fire. Maywood Chief Gargagliano requested 1 RPFD engine to continue in to assist. Engine 19 used the deck gun to quickly knock down the heavy fire which involved the tractor and 2 cars on the 2nd level. 2 hand lines with foam were then put into operation however accessing the pockets of fire in the cars was difficult and due to the damage to the hydraulics it would have been dangerous to have members climb onto the carrier. Command requested Rochelle Parks tower ladder to the scene allowing overhead access with a hand line to complete extinguishment. The fire was under control in 30 minutes and the cause is believed to be accidental.
