Garfield NJ 2nd alm, 91 Jewell St. 05-28-20
In the early hours of May 28th 2020 Garfield NJ firefighters had their hands full when they responded to a reported fire at 91 Jewell St at around 01:45 on May 28th 2020. Units arrived to find heavy fire conditions in a large 3 story wood frame occupied multiple dwelling which was spreading rapidly and threatening the Bravo exposure. A 2nd alarm was requested bringing mutual aid to the scene as companies stretched lines into the building and conducted searches. As conditions deteriorated all members were evacuated from the building and a defensive attack was set up with 1 ladder pipe, 1 deck gun and numerous exterior hand lines. A large portion of the roof and a section of the top floor wall on the Delta side collapsed which made it necessary to establish a collapse zone. The fire was finally placed probably will hold and mutual aid co's were started to be released at 03:45 and the fire was placed under control at approximately 04:30. One occupant was hospitalized with non life threatening injuries and more than 16 people were left homeless. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
