Passaic NJ 3rd alarm, 287 Summer St. 04-05-20
17 people were displaced in a fast moving fire in Passaic NJ on April 5th 2020. The Passaic Fire Dept responded to 287 Summer St just before 09:30 and on arrival Battalion Chief Kevin Colavitti reported heavy smoke and fire from a 2.5 story frame dwelling with possible entrapment. A 2nd alarm was quickly sounded as searched were underway and lines were being stretched and bringing mutual aid co's to assist. With rapidly deteriorating conditions, a 3rd alarm was transmitted and soon after all members were ordered out of the building. 3 elevated streams and numerous hand lines operated for over an hour as heavy fire consumed the rear of the building and extended into the attic and to the front. The fire was placed under control at 11:45 with command reporting companies would continue to operate overhauling and hitting hot spots. The fire did damage to both the bravo and delta exposures, no occupants were injured however several firefighters were treated at the scene for minor injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
