Clifton NJ 2nd alarm, 41 S. Broad St. 03-02-21
On March 2nd 2021 at around 19:40 both the Paterson and Clifton fire departments received calls for a reported fire in the area of Hazel St & Marshall St/S. Broads St. Companies were advised of numerous calls being received and upon arrival of Paterson Battalion 1, he advised a working fire at a recycling center at 41 S. Broad St with heavy fire visible (the 2nd fire to occur in a recycling center in the area in a month). Co's were advised to bring in water and PFD Battalion 1 advised dispatch that the fire was actually in Clifton but Paterson co's would be going to work. Clifton car 82 (tour commander) arrived, took command and requested a 2nd alarm. Reports were a large outside fire which had extended into the building with fire through the roof. Numerous hand lines were put into operation to darken down the fire which involved bales of cardboard as well as loose material, several dumpsters and an area of the roof of the main building and halt further extension. Passaic Fire Dept Truck 1 responded to the scene on the 2nd alarm and additional mutual aid provided coverage. Heavy equipment was used to pull apart the material for extinguishment and overhaul. The fire took several hours to control but companies were successful in preventing further extension into the building. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is unknown.
