Paterson NJ 3rd alarm, 19 Florida Ave. 05-22-22
Just after 04:30 on May 22nd, Paterson Fire Dispatched a box in the 1st battalion for a reported building fire in the area of E. Railway Ave and Florida Ave. On arrival of BC-1 Ken Kiefer, he reported a 1 story commercial building well involved with a collapse of the front of the building and transmitted a 2nd alarm. The fire building was a 1 story 50'X150' ordinary construction with a heavy timber bow string truss roof. Exp. B was an identical building and exp. C was a much larger commercial building also with a bow string truss roof. Deputy 2 arrived on the scene, assumed command and transmitted a 3rd alarm as 2 aerial streams, several 2.5" hand lines and ground monitors were put into operation in an attempt to protect the exposures. L-3 reported that the fire had extended into exposure C and L-2 set up their tower ladder to knock down the fire as companies stretched 2.5" lines into the building after forcing entry and successfully knocked down the fire. The fire building, #19 Florida Ave, occupied by Levine Industries, was completely destroyed however the exposure buildings were saved sustaining minimal damage considering the amount of fire they were exposed to. No injuries were reported and the fire was placed under control in a little over an hour. The cause of the fire is under investigation
