South Hackensack NJ Fatal 3rd alarm, 11 Agar Pl. 06-10-22

At approximately 03:15, South Hackensack Fire Dept. was dispatched for a report of a house fire at 11 Agar Pl. A neighbor from a block over reported she could see heavy fire from the home. On arrival, co's were confronted with heavy fire from the occupied 1.5 story frame dwelling with 2 people reported trapped and a 2nd alarm was transmitted bringing mutual aid to the fire. Under severe conditions an elderly woman was located in the front 1st floor of the building and removed in cardiac arrest. As fire broke through the roof, a 3rd alarm was transmitted and members were temporerily withdrawn from the building. As the heavy fire was knocked down crews re-entered and located a male victim in the rear of the home, he was quickly removed and turned over to EMS in cardiac arrest. The fire was under control in about 90 minutes however companies remained on the scene through the morning while an investigation was conducted by the S. Hackensack Fire Prevention Bureau, county arson squad and county prosecutors office. One additional female was treated for smoke inhalation and no firefighters were injured and home was a total loss.
