Hershey PA Fire Dept.
The Hershey Volunteer Fire Department in the Twp of Derry PA, Dauphlin County station 48, protects a population of just over 21,000 residents in an area covering 27.3 square miles. During the summer months the population swells to over 80,000 and the department also provides fire protection to Conewago Twp., a mostly rural area with approximately 3000 residents in an area of 16.7 miles. Hershey is the birthplace of the late Milton S. Hershey, the founder of Hershey Chocolate, it is home to 2 major candy factories, the Hershey Amusement Park, a college of medicine and the nations largest private boarding school. Fire protection is provided with 2 engines, 1 tower ladder, 1 heavy rescue, 1 mid sized attack pumper, 1 air unit and several support vehicles from 1 centrally located firehouse in downtown Hershey which is currently under major renovations. The department which is 100% volunteer responds to approximately 1000 calls per year. Special thank you to the members who were gracious enough to provide information and pull out each piece of apparatus to be photographed!
