Belleville NJ 2nd alarm, 178 Union Ave. 11-13-15
With Friday the 13th, November 2015 coming to an uneventful end, the Belleville Fire Dept was dispatched at just around 23:30 hours for a report of a house fire at 178 Union Ave. On arrival the companies found fire showing from the 2nd and 3rd floor rear of a large 3.5 story type 5 (frame) private dwelling. As the 1st due truck performed searches and ventilated, the engine co's went to task stretching 1-3/4" handlines into the building to hit the fire head on. A 2nd alarm was requested bringing additional units from Newark, Nutley, Bloomfield and North Arlington.
Due to balloon construction the fire made its way into the attic which became heavily involved but companies quickly pulled ceilings and continued to vent allowing the hose streams to quickly knock the fire down.
No injuries were reported and the fire was under control in an hour. The cause is under investigation
