Closter NJ 2nd alarm, 496 Closter Dock Rd. 10-10-15

At around 06:15 on Saturday morning October 10th, 2015, the Closter NJ Fire Dept. received a call from a passerby of a house fire at 496 Closter Dock Rd. Arriving companies encountered heavy fire in the basement and 1st floor of the 1.5 story frame dwelling. There were conflicting reports of the home being occupied or vacant and companies aggressively searched for a possible occupant but Colliers Mansion conditions made the search as well as firefighting difficult. A 2nd alarm was requested bringing mutual aid companies to the scene. The main body of fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes and it was determined that the home was indeed vacant with no occupants. The fire was declared under control in just over an hour, no injuries were reported, however the home suffered heavy damage and the cause is being investigated by the Bergen County Arson Squad.
