Passaic NJ 2nd alarm, 303 Oak St, 02-22-15
At just after 13:00 hours on Sunday February 22nd, 2015, Passaic Fire Dept responded to 303 Oak St for a reported fire. On arrival companies found heavy smoke showing due to a working fire in the basement. As engine companies stretched lines into the basement, L-2 located and removed 2 occupants who were transported to the hospital. With a heavy fire condition in the basement, additional hand lines were advanced to the upper floors as companies opened up and checked for extension. With little headway being made in the basement and with companies reporting that the 1st floor appeared to be compromised, command ordered all companies to evacuate and an exterior attack was commenced. PSE&G was requested with a rush due to the fire on the 1st floor being gas fed. With all visible fire knocked down and the utilities secured, companies re-entered the building for extensive overhaul and final extinguishment. 1 firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor leg injury and the fire was under control at just around 14:30. Mutual aid from Paterson, Clifton, Wallington, Carlstadt and East Rutherford assisted at the scene while additional mutual aid covered the empty city firehouses.
